Key Terms:

“Participant(s)”—the individual or group being debriefed on an Assessment.

“Debrief”— a sixty-to-ninety-minute session that involves partnering with a Participant in a thought-provoking and collaborative process that helps them understand the feedback and insights described in the Assessment.

“Coach”— an individual who conducts a Debrief.

“Certified 360 Coach”— a Coach who has been certified by DecisionWise and agrees to adhere to these Standards.

“Sponsor” or “Organization” — the entity (including its representatives) paying for and/or arranging a Debrief for the Participant.

“Assessment” — a report that is based on survey or other instrument designed to provide the Participant with insights and feedback about the way a Participant leads others, interacts with colleagues, processes information, makes decisions, processes conflict, etc.

“Debrief Relationship”— a relationship that is established by the Coach and the Participant in order to conduct a Debrief pursuant to an agreement or a contract with a Sponsor or the Participant.

“Standards”— the obligations, responsibilities, and requirements described in this document.

“Confidentiality”— protection and safeguarding by the Coach of any information obtained in connection with a Debrief Relationship unless consent to release is given by the Participant or disclosure is provided upfront during the Debrief that confidentiality will not exist or a compelling reason exists to support disclosure, such as the need to prevent a crime or responding to a court order.

“Conflict of Interest”— a situation in which a Coach has obligations to another party or will receive incentives from a third party and these interests or obligations are not aligned with the best interests of the Participant.

“Equality”— the scenario in which all people experience inclusion, access to resources and opportunity, regardless of their race, ethnicity, national origin, color, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, religion, immigration status, mental or physical disability, and other areas of human difference.

Fifteen Standards for Certified 360 Coaches:

  1. Uses a collaborative coaching style to help Participants understand the feedback, insights, and data stories described in the Assessment.
  2. Maintains reasonable, expected levels of Confidentiality. Confidentiality will be assumed by all parties unless the Coach discloses at the beginning of the Debrief that Confidentiality will not exist, or there is a compelling reason to disclose confidential information, such as the need to prevent a crime or pursuant to a court order or subpoena.
  3. Establishes a clear understanding about how information will be exchanged between the Participant, Sponsor, and the Coach.
  4. Avoids Conflicts of Interest in the Debrief Relationship or discloses them when appropriate.
  5. Properly maintains, stores, and disposes of any records, including electronic files and communications, created during a Debrief Relationship in a manner that promotes confidentiality, security and privacy and complies with any applicable laws and agreements.
  6. Respects all parties’ right to terminate the Debrief Relationship at any point and for any reason during the process, subject to the underlying agreement with the Participant or Sponsor.
  7. Is sensitive to the implications of having multiple relationships within the same organization.
  8. Avoids prescribing therapeutic interventions or engaging in an activity where a therapy license would be required.
  9. If applicable, discloses to the Participant any additional compensation the Coach may receive by referring the Participant to third parties.
  10. Maintains consistent quality and high level of professionalism during a Debrief regardless of the amount or form of compensation.
  11. Commits to ongoing excellence through continued personal and professional development.
  12. When choosing to disclose credential information, accurately identifies qualifications, degrees, expertise, or certifications.
  13. Is honest and truthful in all communications, whether direct or indirect, express or implied.
  14. Avoids romantic interactions with a Participant while the coaching relationship is in effect.
  15. Avoids discrimination by maintaining fairness and Equality in all interactions with a Participant, while respecting local norms and cultural practices. This includes, but is not limited to, avoiding any form of discrimination based on age, race, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, disability, or military status.
